Description
The 2020 Barbera is a new edition to the winery this year. It is a classic representation of our Italian heritage. Barbera is one of Italy’s largest produced grape varietals. It is a grape that comes from the Piedmont region of Italy and is known as a wine of the people. This varietal grows along side of the great Nebbiolo.
This expression of Barbera is one of a mystery. It aligns with “not judging a book by its cover” in all the senses! The color of this vintage is medium light but the mouthfeel and body are not indicative of its color. One would mistake this wine as a light wine if they just looked at its color. Many wines are manipulated to mistakenly add color to wines to match an image. This one does not!
On the palate, this Barbera displays structure along with a delicate balance of fruitiness. Red cherry and raspberry flavors are present early on the palate finishing with hints of baking spices and a hint of caramel from the oak aging in Neutral French oak. The wine’s medium body and smooth silky tannins provide structure while not overpowering the fruit.
The finish of this wine is long. The fruit flavors linger and fade into hints of spice from the oak. You will definitely look forward to the next sip!
I believe this wine can live on its own but it would pair nicely with red or white pizza, mushrooms and herbaceous cheeses like blue cheese!
